The Warrenville Arts Council hosted its inaugural event on Sunday, November 22, 2009, called “Art Works ’09: A Warrenville Showcase”. This event featured visual and performing artists who reside in Warrenville, or who are affiliated with schools that serve the community. Slightly over 450 people visited artist’s booths, enjoyed music and drama offerings, and shared complimentary refreshments free of charge throughout the day. Participants included amateurs and professionals as well as school and community groups.
Thirty-six visual artists were located in the lobby and meeting room. Categories included Ceramics, Glass, Pottery, Jewelry, Oil Painting, Watercolor, Photography, Fiber, Graphic Design, Wood Carving, Paper, Charcoal, Colored Pencil, and Mixed Media. Over thirty performing artists were also featured every half hour in the Meeting Room . Performances included vocal and instrumental soloists as well as small groups such as a trumpet trio, string ensemble, and jazz trio. Student actors from Acorn Community Theater presented the “Tea Party” scene from their November production of “Alice in Wonderland”.
Fifteen of the participating artists generously donated a piece of artwork or a service as part of a Silent Auction that raised funds for the Warrenville Arts Council. Bids were taken throughout the day and the winners presented shortly before the event closed.
Art Works is returning in 2010 on Sunday, November 7 at IBEW, and the council hopes to schedule it as an annual event that features artists from throughout the Midwest.
